African Oystercatchers

Hi everyone, I have just returned from 4 weeks of leading tours and shooting in South Africa and Botswana, that being the reason I have been absent from this forum for some time. This image of 2 African Black Oystercatchers was taken just before sunset at West Coast National Park in South Africa. I usually prefer to not compose my images with the subject/s centered but in this case with them looking in opposite directions I think it works well.

Canon 5D3 500F4 1.4x 1/320 F11, iso 800, Av mode, evaluative metering +0.7, handheld

I really like this 'criss-cross' pose ! I agree the centered composition of the subjects works very well. Great details too !

I agree with the reasons for center comp Nate...works very well for this shot. Looking forward to seeing more of your images from Africa....can I say how envious I am of you being in Africa for 4 weeks though?

I concur, the centered comp works fine with the birds juxtaposed like this.. and who am I to disagree?
Looking forward to more from your trip, very nice Nate! :toast:

Nate,
No problem with the centre pose, it is what these subjects require.
Great poses from the pair of them :toast: :toast:

Works really well and good that you found two without bands as well, making for a great image without distracting color ID rings. The Center Crop works well for me ! :toast: , hans

Well composed with an interesting perch, Nate. I like how you have placed in the bottom half frame. The oystercatchers stand out well against the water. :toast:

Great pose you captured of this pair Nate  Nice light and pleasing composition. The diagonal lines of the rocks work nice here.
