Bush Katydid on Maple

by Tom Astle

A juvenile bush katydid (Scudderia sp.) posing on a Japanese maple in my backyard. The subtle but complex colors and patterns, particularly on the not-yet-winged juveniles, make these one of my favorite backyard bugs.

I like the comp and light on the subject, and there is just enough dof in the subject to make this work, Tom.

Tom, I really like this mini environmental...The DOF makes it feel like you are seeing the Katydid world in the background...but you are not invited... :toast:

Well done. It's sharp where it needs to be and the setting gives a bit of habitat info to the viewer. Nice pose it gave you. Tech details would be helpful for further critiquing.

Very striking perspective, Tom - it seems to be looking right at us ! Like the way the antennae and the tips of the maple leaves are all sharp, complementing each other nicely.
