Feeding

I wasn't sure about posting this, as it could probably use more dof and the main wings are somewhat obscured. But I liked the feeding posture and the minimal look of the bright red markings of this red admiral sitting on some delicately coloured asters

Canon 7D, Tamron 55-200mm lens @ 200mm. 1/320 sec @ f8, ISO 1000.

Very pretty image, Ian. Yes, you just came up a bit shallow on the needed dof. The asters are beautiful, and the center of the perch flower is sharp, but the BF is just a bit soft. Otherwise, it's a lovely image with beautiful supporting flowers, a perfect comp, and a nice bg.

Scott nailed it, Ian. The flowers are lovely, the BF is short by about an inch of dof. Makes me ache to see the full wingspread of the red admiral.

Ian - Great angle. I like this slight head on perspective. The perch makes this extra special.

The aster perch and beautiful color makes it all worthwhile Ian, works for me.
Looks like the light was at at minimum, great use of it :toast:

I like it. The muted contrast. Great angle of view. Dof a little short, but doesn't bother me as much as some I guess. I might highlight the head area 10% if it were mine. :toast:

Hi Ian, the feeding posture is indeed nice and the touch of red in the wings a fine attraction. The sharpness of the aster works well also. It does look like the bf's head and eyes are a bit soft.
