Another image from Point Imperial at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. I wouldn't have shot so much from here but it was the only time I had any real sunlight and then it was just gaps. It was a lot of fun though.

I'd hoped to have some Fall color shots by now but still no luck.

Nikon D800
Zeiss 50mm macro
Processing in LR, CC and with TK's actions

Comments and suggestions welcome and appreciated.

You came away with some amazing images from your Grand Canyon trip and this is no exception, Pat. the drama in the sky is gorgeous as is the lighting in this magnificent view. Beautiful work in every aspect.

Like many GC shots, simply amazing depth here, Pat. Although having been to this site I did not have a chance to shoot from here. You've made up for it with this wonderful series to date.

I was there last weekend and pretty much got nothing but constantly rolling fog. I like this, Pat. The yellows look a tad bit hot on my I-Pad in the large view, but that could just be me. The canyon can be overwhelming in it's immensity and I really enjoyed what you came away with.

Another great comp from this location, Pat. The vertical works really well with the depth of the scene. The great clouds are the icing on the cake.

Pat, your colour pallet goes from warm to cool to warm and adds a great sense of depth to this photo. Many people do not realize how the brain interprets colour. Your clouds are clearly in the background and yet after your eye lands on the warm front rock, it immediately starts to roll up to the yellow skyline. Drawing you into the depth of the scene and through the cool blues and greens of that midground. Your eye hits the light yellow clouds and then falls back to the foreground...Very circular and great example of varying colour which moves the eye through a scene. :toast:

The color palette in this is lovey, Pat. I like the depth and the warm-cool-warm layers of color. You certainly made the most of your time in challenging conditions.

You've also made great strides in your use of TK's masks: Your post processing is really improving.

Thanks for the comments you all. I appreciate them very much.

Preston,

I'm at least starting to feel like I'm controlling the processing as opposed to it controlling me. It's still your scaffolding but I am bringing in some LR elements to it. Again thank you very much for the help on this.

Wow! Great light on the foreground pillar and the top of the sky, Pat. This "gap" worked out very well.

Pat: Wonderful capture of the moment. It's been a long time since I've seen you with a vertical comp so I appreciate this view since most of my comps seem to be verticals. Interesting how different folks see scenes. Most excellent.>=))>

Bill,

I still do mostly verticals of flowers. I think the main reason for a horizontal in landscapes is that I rarely have a fg that really interests me in conjunction with an interesting sky. All the interesting things usually seem to be on the horizon. (smile)
