Fungal Canyon

We do not have too many rocky canyons in Michigan so I had to improvise with some bracket fungi. K5 IIs, 300mm f4 + 35mm extension; 1/8 sec at f22, ISO 800. 6 images stacked with Zerene Stacker. Final image adjusted for levels, Topaz In Focus, Topaz Detail, TK Luminosity masks and curves for lights, darks, and midtones. The original had very dark, featureless shadows and flat midtones which were brightened with the LM..............Jim

That's an amazing fungus show. Very much like both the comp and the way you brought out the contrast with processing. The textures are fascinating.

On my screen there is a bit of blue/cyan hue, more at the top an bottom. It's minor, but could maybe see these working better in a slight warmer color cast.

Its a very pleasing landscape interpretation. There is so much fungi out in the misty Scottish woods right now including those Snow White type (Fly Agaric) them with the red and white spotty caps that seem to appear in all Disney cartoons.

nice one - i think this would work well as a b&w with further exploration of the tones.

This is very cool!! I concur with Tony about the cyan cast. I would be tempted to pull that out, but pretty minor stuff. Real nice work.

Very nice Jim. Interesting patterns, fine textures and on my Macbook the color looks perfect. Well seen and for my tastes perfectly presented.

Very interesting Jim. I agree with a few others on the cyan cast in the top portion of the image but really like the abstract qualities here. Stuart's suggestion of B&W also sounds intriguing.

I love the detaqil itn the focus stack and what a cool composition, Jim. Very cool to explore this fungal canyon. I agree with Suart that it would be an interesting study in b/w.

I have attached a small version with some color correction. For the top I used a color replacement effects brush and brushed a transparent pale yellow over the blue areas and toned down the blue channel with levels for the rest of the image. I enjoyed working on this image and I knew that it had a lot of potential. Tony, I rarely use luminosity masks, but when I do, I find it very rewarding. I have to download the LM package once more since my computer was replaced last year. I'm going to rework the entire image to determine a better strategy for controlling the blue cast. Using sRGB for jpegs made the blue cast stronger. Thank you for all of your help and critiques :wavey: .............................Jim
