A bit of an unconventional treatment for bird photography, but I liked what the lighting did for this Great Blue Heron portrait. I'd be interested in your thoughts.

1Div, 500mm f4 ISL + 2.0TC, balanced on insulation tube on truck window, f8, 1/320, iso 500, pattern metering, aperture priority, -2/3 stop exposure compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 12.7MP by taking a bit off the top and right. Taken at Ridgefield at 7:46 am on September 5th.

Your comments are most appreciated.

Thanks,

Beautiful light for this Heron. Amazing details in the feathers, eyes and as a bonus drops of water on the bec. I love this portrait, in the larger version I have the feeling that I can touch it. Bravo!

Nice close-up shot and like the eye ad the water droplets. I wonder if a fill flash will help lighten and bring more details to the shadow area ?

A drop off both sides of the beak, perfect. Interesting lighting. Very well done.

I think the side-lighting works nicely in this case, it's well controlled Dennis.
Dual drops as well
