Blue Morning

Nikon D 700
Nikon 17-35 @ 20mm
f 22 @ 1.6 sec.
ISO 200
cable release & tripod
Cobble Beach, Acadia NP, ME

The sunrise we were hoping for did not quite materialize, but the blue tones that morning created a nice mood for the scene. It was also nice; and unexpected; that Mike and I had the beach to ourselves. This place can get crowded with photographers all lined up in a row; kind of like combat photography.

The blown out sun does not particularly bother me as it was pretty intense that morning, but I was wondering if it kills the image for you folks?

Thanks for taking a look and leaving a comment or suggestion.

Ed

Doesn't kill it at all for me Ed. I think you handled the light very well here. I like the shutter speed as well. Evokes a very peaceful and serene feeling!

Definitely a tranquil feel Ed, and the sun doesn't hurt the scene at all, really like the color and the golden light on the water, all and all, beautiful scene and beautifully presented.

Sun doesn't bother me; you could paint a little color on it through a luminosity mask. I like the sharp shadow edges from the rocks in the water.

The sun is fine and the whole image works very well, particularly the patch of reflected sunlight on the water and rocks.

I didn't get anything half this good. Perfect shutter speed for the water and as you say, great mood with the blue light. The sun doesn't bother me, but if I were to be super nit-picky, I would probably clone out or tone down the hot spot on the rock out in the water :toast:

Nice mood and great light, Ed. I'd like a touch more detail in the darker rocks, but other than that, this looks really good.

Beautiful sunrise image. I like the sun kisses on the rocks in the foreground. Thanks for sharing this.

Nice scene. For some reason it seems hard to imagine it crowded with photographers. The blown sky is a bit bothersome, but it almost looks like you might have enough color to recover it a bit.

Hi Ed,
I especially like the fore ground rocks, and the water has a nice feel to it
Very nice

Ed,

I like this as posted. For me, anytime the sun is being photographed having it blown out makes sense. It seems like it's sort of a way of saying you don't know what it looks like - and you don't, I don't know of anyone that stares into the sun and looks at it.

The sun is pretty intense but it really is. I struggle with shots into the sun and appreciate your efforts here, Ed. The scene works fine, for me and I kinda wish I was there experiencing this peaceful sunrise. :toast:

This looks fine, Ed. The overall cool tones do a fine job of evoking that sense of cool, quiet that often is part of a sunrise and the great depth really lets me feel like I'm right there enjoying the sights and sounds. I too am struggling with including/excluding "a blown sun" in images and am slowly coming to feel like there are times when it's not a problem and this sure looks like one of those.

Nice beam of light on the water and light on the rocks Ed and a very relaxing mood also. Sun is a little bright but small enough to not be a distraction for me. Great job on this.

Really nice, Ed. The sun is small enough in the image that the blown highlights aren't very distracting. I really like the reflected color on the rocks. Not much happening on the right side of the frame; I might play with alternate comps/crops, but this still works for me.

Well executed one, Ed. I do not find the sun to be an issue. We'd all like to see every image we take to be dead on, but not a deal breaker if they have a bit of an issue such as a slight intense sun as seen here. Nice work IMO.

Thanks for your thoughts folks; it is always appreciated. I was afraid it would be a deal breaker. I will work on your suggestions and see what I can come up with.
