One of our smaller butterflies, the speckled wood rarely visits flowers, feeding off honeydew and choosing frequently to bask on leaves in the sun with open wings.

Canon 7D, Tamron 55-200mm lens @ 200, 1/500 sec @ f8, - 0.67ev, ISO 1000, hh.

Hi Ian,

Brown butterflies are ideal photo subjects--often overlooked, but they have lots of character. I like the focus on the body and hind wing. Eye detail is excellent...........................Jim

Well captured, Ian. The focus on the eye/head/forequarters is right on the money. Very nice colors, pose, and bg.

Very nice, Ian. The duskywings in our part of the country are very skittish. This is a very nice look at this fellow. Real nice perch and a very clean background.

Ian, Love the furry look to the butterfly. The curve formed by the leaf also adds to the overall composition !
