Late Summer's Quiet +rpst

I went to Great Falls on the Potomac yesterday afternoon hoping for a good sunset. That didn't happen (surprise, surprise) but I did find this view that spoke to me about the calm that settles in after nature's frantic activity through spring and early summer. Yes, Mark, you captured a very very peaceful mood. No spectacular color, but the light is very nice as is the sky. :toast:

Every image does not have to have those blazing colors to be successful and this is a perfect example. This has a gentle quiet mood that comes through with your comp, Mark. I have to make it back down there one of these days.

Melancholy and kind of dreamy, Mark.
I would be tempted to saturate it a bit more, but maybe your vision works better...
The water is perfect and the processing is very nice.

Love the way the pool is framed, the backlit leaves and light striking the rocks.

It seems like a hazy day. I’m no processing expert but maybe a levels or contrast adjustment painted into the middle-ground?

I like the comp well enough with the framing leaves and the water rocks are interesting. Something doesn't look quite right here, but I'm not quite sure what. Maybe the sky is a little dark.

Nice serene scene Mark, and I like the hint of godbeams shining down. Looks like there's a little haloing going on around the rocks and trees, but that can be corrected.

The title definitely fits this Mark, really like the soft colors and very nice light, I'd say you captured the mood beautifully.

The spreading ripples and sun beams add nice touches to a great composition. The color seems a bit off, like an HDR look.

Awesome comp Mark. I could tell this was MD Great Falls from the thumbnail, and predicted it was yours :) I think you could look at darkening the shadows a bit to enhance the mood, maybe just slightly will add some more dynamics back to the image

That pool of water makes me want to jump right on in. Beautiful capture Mark.

Great mood, Mark. I agree with Tony that something looks off color and tone wise, but I'm unsure exactly what it is. As Tony says, the sky, and the clouds are perhaps a little dark? I do like the composition and the quiet mood.

As always, here at NPN, there were a number of valuable suggestions for this image. I went back and found that there was a lot more room in the histogram to brighten the sky. Here's the result.

I ditto what Ed has said Mark, nicely done.
Excellent comp with great natural framing! :toast:
PS - The slightly brighter sky is good improvement, lightens up the mood a bit too

Solid comp and a peaceful scene. I like the reworking better. Though you did a good job handling the shadows, I think they are still too prominent for me. I think it would look better under different light.

Mark, the second image with lifted shadows or lightened sky seems to work very nicely. I also like the framing using the side foliage here. Many times that effect seems to distract more then add to a scene, but this one is excellent in that respect. I assume the small water ripples are fish? ....breaking the surface here and there with their afternoon feeding.
Nice work from this area.......
