Late Summer Goldfinch
by Dennis Plank
The juvenile American Goldfinches have been foraging in the Anise Hyssop of late and I managed to get out Monday morning for a shoot. The bed that's planted with these is unfortunately in the shadow of a neighbor's fir tree from about 1/2 an hour after sunrise until the sun is too high for good photography, but the sun was filtered by some nice fog which reduced the contrast with the bg to a point I thought worked fairly well. I left part of the old post in on the left side of the frame because I liked the lines of it and it didn't seem to distract from the bird. I cloned out a couple of oof bloom stems that I found distracting.

9 commentsThis image is full of detail, great shot. At first I was unsure if I liked the tree (post) on the left. But then I noticed how the shape of the moss mimics the birds shape. Very cool. Super BG, looks like real nice soft light. And great techs too.
Not sure if the tree on the left helps the image but it dose add some color. well done
Marvelous image, the pose is splendid and the inclusion of the post adds rather than diminishes
