Moth?

Not sure what this is, but it landed on the outdoor side of the glass on our backdoor and provide a photo op. I shot from the inside of our house. There was not room to set up a tripod and get close to this insect. Used a monopod with a tripod foot. Other problem was dirt on the glass, couldn't use a spray cleaner w/o hurting the model. Cleaned around it with a damp paper towel. Wing span is about an inch.

Canon SL1
1/400 @ F-5.6 ISO400
Canon EF-100mm 2.8 macro + 36mm x-tube.

John--This is a plume moth Pterophoridae. Head end is pretty crisp. The artifacts from dirty glass are present, but you might be able to use a Gaussian blur plus masking layer to reduce the impact.......................Jim

Apart from those slightly distracting artefacts, John, this is a fine, nicely detailed image. Impressive to have got it in flight like this !!

That's one strange critter, John. It's a neat catch and you did well shooting through a dirty window.

Good use of the photo op. I like the unique perspective and usual look.
