One of the nice things about photographing little owls is the ability to see what food they are bringing in which in a way can give valuable info about their specific food/habitat needs. I have data going back 50 years with notes on what they have brought in and am preparing a paper on this at the moment.
This one has a Ghost Swift moth- for some reason one of the most frequent food items at least in this part of the world. Its good that bird photography gives us the chance to anylise food items - including mealworms which often are not mentioned !

Taken inside an open fronted barn so difficult lighting

A very nice image, John. It is interesting what kind of food items one sees-and a whole lot better than examining stomach contents the old way. The air holes in the brickwork of the barn are a bit of a distraction in this image, but I don't know if there's a way of keeping them out of the bg.

Terrific image!
The owl is perfect - great stare, sharp detail, excellent prey!
The brick BG i find very interesting, and the holes don't bother me much - but with some careful cloning and healing, you could zap them, if you wanted.

The BG makes for a really fun and unique image, John. The prey is a nice added touch, and I love how the owl is looking right at you.

The Owl itself is perfect, I can love with the less than perfect background, because of the stupendous quality of the subject :toast: :toast:
