Lodgepole Pine Stand

How to characterize a stand of trees? This stand is not especially picturesque or colorful, but it may have its charms. Lodgepole pine stands have a rather sterile, uniform, gallery-like trunk space, as shown here. Lodgepole pine stands are common and widespread in Yellowstone National Park where this image was obtained on 30Jan2012 using
- Canon EOS 5D Mark II
- EF24-70mm/2.8L ASM at 70mm
- f/22, 0.8sec, ISO100 on tripod with

Ron - Welcome to the Flora Gallery  and a cool first post.

I love the graphical quality of this image. You can play with some more contrast, blacks etc to make this punchy if you so wish. I'd have loved some more space at the bottom !

I like the subtle tones here, Ron, as well as the rendering of the bark textures. Like Ram, I might wish for a touch more at the bottom, but this otherwise is beautifully composed ( the occasional slanting branch and fallen twigs are very neat ! ). Hope to see more from you !!

I agree with Ram and Ian about the bottom. As for contrast, I would darken up the darks, if anything.

Strong image.  Borders on  but doesn't quite get overly busy.  Somehow makes me think of the visual equivalent of the music of Phillip Glass.
