On our way out of the park we stopped to use the facilities at the Blacktail Plateau horse trailhead and I found this Raven posing for me. I do wish the oof branch weren't in the foreground on the bottom, but I couldn't find an angle to avoid it completely.

7D, 300mm f4 + 1.4TC, hand held, f5.6, 1/250, iso 640, +2/3 stop exposure compensation, aperture priority. Processed in LR5 & CS6. A couple of stray twigs removed. Cropped to 13.5 Mp from the original 18. Taken June 23rd at 7:42 am.

Your comments are very much appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Very nice! Love the delicate new growth on the trees. Yellowstone has to be one of the hardest parks to turn your back to and leave. Tail is a wee bit soft on the large version but it is what it is. :toast:

Beautiful shot Dennis, great composition and expression of the bird, and I don't mind the oof foreground branch at all myself. Well done.

I like the pose and natural frame from the pine in this one Dennis, but I find the raven just too dark still. With that bright BG, it is really hard to get the dark subject properly exposed without using manual exp, or being in spot meter if you want to shoot aperture priority....at least I have always had better experience those ways. Other option would be just really increase your Exp compensation much more than you think. For example, here, I would have been at least at + 1 1/3.
