Common Yellowthroat

Found this Common Yellowthroat tonight before dark. I was hoping the sun would come out a bit more, but sometimes you have to take what you can get. I thought this photo shows how these birds can be very hard to find out in the open.

Hope you enjoy!

A decent habitat shot, Jason. You've made effective use of the out of focus grass stems to suggest the skulky nature of wood warblers. There's some loss of detail in the blacks, and the middle part of the yellows. The ugly, cut-off branch on the right dominates and throws the photo out of balance as well. Maybe crop to remove it? And maybe selectively darken the white branch the bird is perched on.

Habitat shots, with the bird partially obscured, have to be very strong to compete against a shot with a larger image of the bird and the bird out in the open.

I like the composition and the partially hidden bird, Jason. The bird does seem a bit soft in the larger version. When I'm doing small birds with my 7D I always use that small AF point-it seems to do a great job of grabbing focus in crowded conditions.
