Recently made my first shot of this butterfly..
The Juniper Hairstreak (Callophrys gryneus) is a tiny butterfly, and is rather uncommon in our neck of the woods. Markedly smaller than the hairsteaks I'm used to seeing.
F/11, 1/320th, ISO 640, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 + 1.4x ext with fill using a monopod for support.

Howard ..I like this one ..looks like the butterfly wiped off some rust from the mid of the flower.. Love the crop here

A really great shot here, Howard. Trying to determine scale and it looks like that's a pretty small butterfly. Detail in the larger post is awesome. Like the pleasantly blurred background which sets off the flower and butterfly nicely. Always enjoy the intricate patterns on their wings; almost looks hairy on this one.

Beautiful BF image, Howard. I especially like the crop/comp. Seriously, I do prefer this image over the version in macro. I did not mention it in my comment on the macro version, but the way the uneven "rust" color on the BF's wings matches the uneven rust color of the flower is remarkable. The rust color in the bg completes the image. :toast:

Howard, I like this version much better than the macro version, both in it's orientation and the crop.

Gorgeous, colorful, and lots of detail here, Howard. During my wildlife photographic days, I used the heck out of my monopod too.
