Red-spotted Purple

I went out to a local park early this cool morning hoping to snag a few photos. I found this red-spotted purple (Limenitis arthemis: Nymphalidae)waiting for the warmth of the sun. The butterfly has a few battle scars which shows that nature is a difficult place to eke out an existence. Pentax K5 IIs 32mm extension Da* 300mm f4,ISO 500, f8, 1/125 sec., natural light. Lightroom edits included +.3 stop exposure, shadows, and Topaz Detail was used for final sharpening. Thanks for looking.....................Jim :wavey:

Excellent processing. Excellent detail on the B'fly and seed heads (gotta love Topaz Detail!). Lovely BG. This one's a winner! The only thing else I would consider would be a little more canvas on the left. Easy enough to do. :toast:

Gorgeous subject against a nice complementary bg, and I also like the grass perch. Excellent BF image, Jim. I'd be happy with this in my portfolio. :toast:

Beautiful image of this gorgeous BF, Jim! I like the complementary green as BG and the shadow of the antlers are just that bit extra… :wavey:

Hi Jim! It's really nice that the entire butterfly is in sharp focus and that the rich green background is nice and creamy. The only change I might consider would be to crop out a tiny bit of the bottom.

Nice, sharp detail, Jim, and a lovely background. The tonality is very attractive and you've caught the butterfly in a suitably active pose.

Jim: I really like this one. Most of the time we look for the perfect subject but I like what you've done with this somewhat imperfect one. Nice find and a fine capture. >=))>

This is great, Jim, with the few sharp grass heads, completely sharp bf, and lovely oof green background. Your processing really lets the subtle colors of the bf show well.

Really sweet - I love that the b'fly is not on a typical flower. The texture of the grasses adds a lot.
Congrats on a fine WP!
