Lil' Red Antlers

So here's the follow up to yesterdays wide view.
Not sure what the little beetles ID is, sorry about that..
F/6.3, 1/800th, ISO 640, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 with flash.
Approx. 70% of the original. I would've like a bit more DOF, but I got the important parts. Exposure was tricky with the bright yellow, then darker green surroundings..
It was mostly cloudy with the sun breaking through at times around 11:00am. Don't go out anymore after 11:00 or so, too damn hot & humid now:rolleyes:

Love those little antlers! Looks like a feisty little guy! Reminds me somehow of Yosemite Sam.

Yosemite Sam? Yeah, I can see it. To me, it Lloks like a creature from "Men in Black" with all the arms, flippers, and antennae. I like the head on view/perspective, Howard.

Real tight DOF which is super hard to nail on something as small as this - visually interesting for sure, but the bright yellow is a distraction when so little area of the image is in focus

It sure does looks like a little alien to me, Howard! I like the shallow DOF, the attention is all to the face with the curious antlers. I think you managed the yellow well. Nice image! :wavey:

Thanx for your feedback everyone :wavey:

Luke: How about less of the yellow, with the subject off-center left a bit?

Hi Howard! I love the details of that face (that only a mother could love). The yellow of the flower complements the creamy green background well. No grain shows in the large image, even at ISO 640.

Great catch on those "antlers" and head, Howard. I take it this one was tail down, shortly after take-off. The toned down yellows in the repost are good, but I like the original comp.
