Stalker

I was at Busch Wildlife Center in Jupiter Florida the other day which has mostly captive (rehabbing) animals. They do have a nice florida swamp with a boardwalk though and it's always filled with Green Herons. I was happy to take off my TC and use just the 300mm as this bird stalked its prey beneath the duckweed

Nikon D7100 300mm f4
f/4
1/200s
ISO 1000

Full Frame, minor adjustments in LR5 and CS5

Very nice - I like the overall color of this and the feeling of intimacy.

A neat angle, Luke. More dof would have been nice, but you obviously didn't have the light for it. Wonderful look at the eye, and tack sharp where it's most important.

Good catch, Luke. Sharp where it matters and I like the swampy surroundings. :toast:

A habitat shot that doesn't distract from the bird; nicely done. And you've captured the tension of these guys as they stalk prey. Really nice.

Luke,
This is a great photo and it demonstrates subtle action. He is stealthily intent. Like the composition and the surroundings right down to the moss on his legs. :toast:

I really like the setting here Luke. I also like the pose he gave you. Of course I wish you had a bit more light to work with so stop down a bit more, but certainly not within your control.
