I was lucky to spot two of these interesting insects today, but managed a picture of just one.

Please comment and critique.

Great look at the Clearwing, Randy. Your top down capture nicely shows the transparent wings. Excellent focus on the head and torso. These moths are fascinating but rarely seen, at least for me, and not easily photographed. Nice capture.

Very nice image, Randy! The wings are captured well. I really like the golden color of the body. :wavey:

Nice big moth with great stopped action. I wish that the insect was the only thing in focus here though as the green foilage in the upper center of the image is also in focus

Thanks for your comments, Scott, Ellen, and Luke.

Good point about the leaves in focus, Luke. They must have been in the same plane as the moth, and distract from the insect's body.

Love the light here, Randy - it really brings out the colours of the moth. Altogether a very nice image, with just the right amount of dof to get the insect prominent - and I like the sense of movement in the wings.

Nice details and use of f/5.6 with a great plane of focus Randy.
I've had my turn with the clearwing, they're quite a challenge.
Well controlled flash & I like the comp :toast:

Nice stop action, Randy. Great color and good detail on the body. The leaves in focus don’t bother me. The background might be a little busy, but I know it is very hard to control everything in an image of insect in flight. Well done! :toast:
