F/5.6, 1/500th, ISO 500, 1D M3, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 + 20mm ext. ring with monopod for support.

So beautiful for such a noxious weed. Like the effect with the extension tube on the 150 mm sigma. I really like mine, just have unleash my inner Howard Cheek. Someday

Gorgeous closeup of this colorful devil, Howard. These thorny things can be nasty at time. Yep, we've got them here in So Cal too. I had to rush my Siberian Husky to 24 hour vet one night after a run in with some of it. He had a reaction from the thistle weed and I thought he'd been bitten by a rattler as we got them too. Anyway, he was fine after a dose of Benadryl......
