At the base of a fairly large dry fall I found this amazing dried pool with a tumble weed pretty much smack dab in the middle. The tumble weed is approx. 2 feet in dia. to give you an idea of the scale of the cracks. It was a tight spot to try to shoot, but I came away with a few comps that I like.

5d2, 32mm, f/16, 1/8s, iso 50

Your comments and critiques greatly appreciated.

i certainly like this comp Gary. Strong tonality and fine detail. Wish I could learn to see black and white like this. I like it a lot.

I've always believed a great image needs a great title/caption to get the viewer to pop open the thumbnail..
So this 'Fuzzy Navel' is light on the alcohol, high in taste
Good eye for the shot & I agree with Pat, nicely contrasted tones & detail..
Much better large too:toast:

So cool! Very graphic. BW was a good decision. Nice eye to spot this scene and great job pulling a really pleasing composition from it.

Love the comp and abstract nature of this one, enhanced by the BW. From a comp standpoint, I might have tried to eliminate the URC dark area as it doesn't seem to fit the uniform nature of the rest of the image. I'm sure you have other comps that may have addressed this. I'm curious why you chose ISO 50 for this kind of shot. I have the same camera and read somewhere that the native ISO 100 was optimal for clean images(grain). I could understand if it were a water image & you wanted to lengthen shutter speed, but not sure for a static image  Maybe there is something I am missing that I should have been doing?

Gary, I think your decision to go b&w here was an excellent one! Really enjoy the texture and detail in your large version. Harry makes a good point about the upper right corner but I also understand you might not have been able to get a good comp without it. I like the feel of this image very much! Cool work!! :toast:

Way cool, Gary. The mud cracks have a great 3D sense and your comp. with the light and dark oval looks great.
