Havasu Canyon is one place i've visited that I don't think I could ever get tired of. I've hiked down into it a few times and was lucky enough to hike up the river from the Colorado once during a 250-mile rafting trip. I took this photo as I neared the village, I think it was the shadow of the Cottonwood trunk that caught my eye. Since I was using Velvia 50 and a small aperture, the exposure was 1 or 2 seconds, and I jostled the tripod towards the end which gave the image a more painterly feel. C and C appreciated.

Minolta Maxxum 7, 17-35mm lens, 2 seconds at f/16, Velvia 50, Gitzo tripod

O yes, that soft autumn light can only spell paradise, your image with that dream effect is outstanding, what a nice surprise it must have been, getting that box of slides back. The good old film day's, every shot counted.

The movement added an interesting effect to this Thomas something like a very strong orton. An interesting comp and nice colors also. Maybe a little bright in the fore ground area for me but a very nice job on this.

Complete honesty - it does give me a bit of a dizzying headache, but I've never liked strong orton type effects. Great composition though, and impressive handling of the strong light especially given that you were using film! Did you get any without the motion blur?

Awesome light, Thomas and like you, I feel the shadow is fantastic. I think the sun flare is a distraction. The movement of the tripod has added an almost Orton effect to the image.

Best wishes,
Carol

I love the comp but the processing is just not my taste....too much orton-like effect. Good control of the tough lighting situation, though

I'm with the above. I love the scene, but the blur leaves me wishing I had a sharp version to compare.

Thomas, this is a great scene. I particularly like the backlit leaves and the tree's shadow. It's a very nice dynamic comp. I'm not going to fault you for trying the experiment (tripod jostling), but I'd prefer to see this image without it. Good for you for working "outside the box." I enjoy your work and creativity.
