D800 200-400mm @ 270mm tripod F8 1/1500

Couldn't help but notice this killdeer mom while walking the dogs this morning. I have witnessed this nest protection behavior before but never had the camera ready. Although I was standing no more than 4 feet from the eggs, it took me about 5 minutes to find them, thankfully I didn't step on them before seeing them

I apologize if the inset egg image violates a forum rule.

Excellent exposure and detail. The classic broken wing act is captured well. Hopefully she didn't stay off the eggs too long.

Great shot of the broken wing display, Bob. I love the light on the Killdeer. The only thing that I can think of to improve it might have been a lower angle, if it was available. That said, this angle put the bird pretty parallel to the focal plane, which helps keep her completely in focus.
