This hoverfly is one of a few that were flying on and off some fresh Spring dogwood leaves - I'm not quite sure why !! Maybe seeking flowers or perhaps getting moisture from the leaves ? This one was about to take off.

Canon 7D, Tamron 55-200mm lens @ 200mm, 1/800 sec @ f 5.6, -0.67ev, ISO 400

Spot on focus on the HF, Ian. The image has an appealing dreamy look from the shallow dof and lighting. I think the large light area in the bg detracts a bit from the image, but I assume this was the cleanest bg available.

I like the colors in the leaves and you've got good sharpness on the fly. It's positioned well for take-off, but I find the blue too dark relative to what your title has me imagining. (Guess I've seen too many flying movies with biplanes heading into bright blue skies. )

Ian, I like the take-off pose and the hoverfly is well positioned in the frame. I would like the hoverfly face the camera more.

Hi Ian, How nice to run across one of your postings. I like the position of the Hoverfly and I especially like the composition. Nice focus on the fly.

Cheers,

Carol
