Thirst of a Kudu

by Morkel Erasmus

The Greater Kudu is one of the most graceful of Africa's antelopes. I posted a photo of a bull with its distinct twisting horns a few weeks ago - so here is a cow in the first light of day, photographed in the Etosha National Park, Namibia.

Techs:
Nikon D3s
Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
f4.0 | 1/320 SS | ISO-1000

Similar in body structure to our North American Elk imho, although no relation. Pleasing shot with good light. The water dripping from the mouth is a nice touch, suggests something may have caught her attention and forced her to lift her head. I like the reflections.

Very nice capture in beautiful light. Most of us like the big bulls and bucks, but is is nice when females are posted. They have a beauty all their own.

I agree with Jerry, we spend so much time on the guys that we forget how beautiful the gals can be. Exquisite light. The water dripping from her mouth is a nice extra. Well done.

The lighting, pose, and dripping water are great. The reflections are neat as well, but also a bit disorienting as my first impression was that the legs were going off canvas...
