Giant Blue Flag Iris
by Bill Leggett
The Louisiana state wildflower (Iris giganticaerulea) makes its appearance in the Jean Lafitte area early to mid April, and it's a real showpiece here blooming for around two weeks. Weather conditions were perfect this morning with calm conditions in the Jean Lafitte Nature Study Park a few miles south of the national park. There were lots of blooms there and more on the way. Taken in early morning overcast light. Full frame, larger image included.

The repost is even better, now that I see it.
