A Candle in the Dark
by Dennis Plank
Which is what this flower always reminds me of. This is a Sessile Trillium (Trillium parviflorum), endemic to a relatively small area in the Pacific Northwest. I'm about at the northern limit of its range. Like most Trilliums, it's a woodland flower, growing in the oak riparian forest here. Leaves are sometimes mottled and sometimes not. The blossom arises directly from the leaf joint and never opens much more than this.
