Another from 2012 that I found hiding in the archives. It's deliberately cut off, so wondering if you think it works. The Merced River at the Gates of the Valley viewing area.

D800,
2sec, F/8,
iso 400,

Thanks,
Chris

Hey Chris, I think it works fine for me. I would think about desaturating the blue in the upper left or some other way of removing the color there. Everything else is spot on to my eye.

Chris, this view really lets the reds in the shrubs and the golds of the grasses be the stars. It looks like a wonderfully peaceful fall day.

Peaceful. Beautiful shot of a nice natural setting and I like the very natural looking processing. This type of shot, processing, etc. is my favorite. As Eliot Porter is one of my all time favorites, I'm getting a little tired of the HDR, high saturation, contrast trend. Constantly have to catch myself from going too far as well with my shots. As I glance over to my 1989 Motley Crüe "Girls, Girls, Girls" concert poster, I'm reminded that more 'glam' isn't always a good thing.
Thanks for this nice image.

I like the BG, but I would try a few different things here. Keep in mind, my opinions and I'm not sure they would look any better.....

1st version I would try is to cut off some of the reflection and make the waters edge veg and tree line the focal points.

2nd experiment would be to cut a little more off the top and make the reflection the focal point, maybe slightly brighten it up, add contrast, whatever works.....

In any case, man I wish I had some mountains and Fir trees here! Beautiful part of the world you have.

It works for me. I see a lot of images with no sky since here in the PNW it is drab and gray most of the time so it's often omitted and I'm probably desensitized to it. I especially like the fg though. It shows a nice depth of its own reflecting both the mid and bg nicely. BTW your images always seem sharpened perfectly. Do your methods vary or do you have a go to process?

Thanks guys!

Alan, I agree completely. I sometimes think just because we can blend multiple images for exposure, and depth of field, does not mean we should. Yes it has it's place obviously, seeing that is where things are trending. But I am quite happy with my single file images with the help of a grad filter. I have done one blend that I just recently posted. I too tend to like the softer quiet side of nature. But I would always get e cited to have some storm light, or vivid sunsets.

Bruce, the Marc Adamus web sharpening technique is what I use. Sometimes I apply it to my downsized file without removing my unsharp mask applied sharpening. If it gets too crunchy, then I remove it and start fresh

Thanks
Chris

Real nice colors and scene. It feels a bit cut off at the top to me, but minor stuff. I find the image works.

This is beautiful, as is, and I love the reflection of the cliffs in the water. The colors, the shapes, all are good for me. Nice work.
