Yosemite morning

Last week I saw Yosemite in snow for the first time and it was truly memorable. For all of you in the midwest and east, you must be sick of snow, but here in California it is a special treat this winter.

Canon 5d, M3, ISO160, 105mm, f/16, 1/60 sec.

Thanks in advance for any comments or critiques.

Kathy, that's a beautiful image. I love that place in winter, but this winter I got skunked with no snow for months, so I never went. Thanks for bring this back for me to see.

Kathy , I really like the composition and the conversion. The clearing clouds and the contrasting granite and the scale of this shot are very cool. I think I would try two things here. First would be to darken the FG trees almost to pure black ,or at least as dark as the trees on the mountain Middle right of frame,( I realize the trees are snow covered) and secondly I would deal with the halo on the BG ridgeline. Great shot and just my 2 cents.

Kathy, I really like the layering of the two angled slopes and how the angled ridges contrast with the vertical striping on the walls. The scattered clouds are a fine addition as well. I find the trees at the bottom too bright in the smaller version. In the larger version they fit in better and show some nice detail but it seems like the snow covered tips are blown. I think it would be a nice improvement on an already strong image if those tips could be toned down.

The top half is awesome, the lower half kind of leaves me ho-hum. I think Gary is on to something, making it darker might make for a stronger image. Certainly a lot of good stuff to work with here though. Thanks for posting it! :toast:

This is stunning, Kathy. I like your choice of b&w to bring out the contrast the snow adds to the landscape. Nice work

I think you might have caught the last opportunity for snow there this season. I guess there were some pretty good conditions there for a couple of days last December too. Should have been ready to jump when it was forecasted. This is nice, and is perfect for B&W. I have something pretty similar to this from a different spot myself.

This is awesome, Kathy. I really like the overall weather and B&W treatment. But more importantly I really like this particular angle of view. Very nice.
