Warming Up

I hoped the light on El Capitan would reach that intense red tone that I've seen in pictures before. But as time went by the fog and clouds closed out the opening for the light to come through. But, I was happy to catch these conditions here while waiting! From a couple of years ago now. Large version included.

D200,
18-70mm,
1/8sec, F/13,
Soft GND, 3 Stop,

Thanks,
Chris

I think the clouds add real interest to the image, as well as the fog in the valley. The light is also very sweet.

This is sweet light….
I might lighten the LHC a tad but that is it, very nice work.

Epic view Chris... I'm sorry I missed this when I ventured to Cali last August. I like the contrast from left to right and keep looking at this image almost expecting the clouds to move and el Capitan to show. This image gives me a little yearning-like interest that is different.

Wonderful mix of light and shadows. The fog down in the valley is the cherry on top!

The hidden summit just makes the difference here for me, Chris! A wonderfully balanced composition to my eye.

You lucked out with the lighting, snow and clouds this day. This is gorgeous, as always. The one nit I have is that the cloud on El Cap looks too dark to my eye, kinda like smog. Looks like there's a nearby fire! I'm being picky because I was just there this week and have been processing my own pics that look a little like this one!

Hmmmmmm, looks familiar, Chris. I think this was shortly before I met up with you and Lon that morning. My gosh, seems like decades ago now.
Very nicely captured and the choice of grad was the right take here.

Took me a minute to get the title, but I like it. And the image. Really nice.

An idea that might help is masking the saturation in the shadows, particularly in the snowy areas. The blue there looks a little unnatural and (for me) distracts from the warmth of El Cap and the cloud mass.

My two cents! Great image of a stunning place.
