Spring's Coming

My family and I took a (wet!) hike in Eagle Creek Friday. There were a surprising amount of flowers out; mostly small except for trillium. Leaves are just beginning to bud. There was a lot of water flowing; this is the most I have seen at Metlako.

A captivating photo. I like the lighted foreground and the foggy background. My first thought was Rivendell from "The Lord of the Rings".

Sweet! The fog adds a lot of atmosphere and I really like the two tall trees to the right.

Beautiful. I love scenes like this. I like all the elements, especially the smooth water flow and the sheer, tree and moss covered face on the left. Lighting all around is good and I like the apparent vignetting. The fog enhances image as well.

Only thing I might change is the crop. However, I would have to experiment with it. I like this one, but something is telling me to make it a slight bit wider. Could be wrong though. Other very minor adjustment I'd try is moving myself a bit to the left to give that tree and falls a little more gap. Only if possible though. Wouldn't want to lose any of the sheer face details.

Beautiful John. One of the better shots I've seen from site. Would love to visit there.

Wow, John. What a nice place for a hike, even if it was wet. Beautiful composition. I really like the natural vignetting framing this shot. Certainly no nits from me. :toast:

Lovely... the neutral colors work well with this scene and the mist enhances its mystique. Nicely done John.

Beautiful, John! Great soft atmosphere and color. I think the crop works well with the tall narrow trees.

Thanks so much for the comments and feedback everyone!

Bill, if you're ever up this way, drop a line! I'll give you the personal tour. (For free, because you get what you pay for. )

Gary, your right. It's a ridiculously fun little camera. It's probably a really good thing that it can't go wider or do better in dim lighting, or I'd just throw my SLR away. And then, I'd look just silly whipping my tiny camera out of my shirt pocket and my twinky tripod out of my back pocket to capture a grand vista; no one would take me seriously.

Gorgeous, John. Love the atmosphere and soft colors, and the volume of water is spectacular. One of the best I've seen of this WF.

The atmosphere you captured here is incredible! Your position for this view point just works really well also. I think the processing is excellent as well. I could see a small crop from the bottom to just above that branch near center.

Beautiful image John. That is a ton of water in Eagle Creek! I like the comp and choice of shutter speed which shows some of the energy in the water. I wonder how long those trees on the right are going to hang on....I saw that the leaning tree up at Punchbowl finally fell into the creek recently.

Very nice and a difficult shot to get well.
It is a bit reddish for me, but effective.
The water is about as much as the gorge gets, a great time for being there.

John - your last comment goes to show how little equipment contributes to a strong imagery. Wish I knew this early on :)

Hi John,

I'm really liking the mist, and how it adds to the atmosphere, and complements the overall composition and feeling of the image. Beautiful!

Nice--your comp is exquisite. A less talented photog would have killed this shot by having one of those branches cross the falls, but you balanced things like the master you are! Minor nit--the brightest water highlights a bit hot. Good stuff, John! :toast:

john, we're taking you seriously whatever you pull out of your back pocket.

i'm always fascinated what you can do with whatever you're using - it goes to show, time and again, it's not the tool but the person behind it that makes the different. only small nit here is the proximity of the tree to the top of the falls but you probably had little space to manoeuvre?

Beautiful foggy capture of Metlako. Unique for the blue mist vs the green and olive trees and branches, and of course the amount of water, wow.

All the diverse elements work wonderfully together for me, John. The haze makes for a nice atmosphere and adds a lot to my eye, it makes me feel like breathing the fresh air.
