Red-Tailed Hawk

Another from Sacramento NWR. The tree was right next to the road, and the bird allowed me to get a number of images. I was prepared to get some flight shots if it took off. Another vehicle came roaring past me, oblivious to the presence of the hawk. The spooked hawk dove off the branch and was immediately obscured by the passing vehicle. So, no flight pictures.

Very nice capture Jim. Love the open beak and the exposure and sharpness are great. Well done.

I'll echo Jerry's comments. I especially like the calling pose! :toast:

Nice pose and I like the open beak, Jim. Excellent job on the exposure. Amazing how fast some people drive in a "refuge" isn't it?

Very pleasing image Jim. Love the open beak and nice head turn. If I had a nickel for every time someone flew past me and cost me a shot I would be a very wealthy man.
I can totally relate. Good luck next time you have this type of opportunity.

Excellent detail. The calling action adds a lot to the capture. I even find the framing of the upper twigs to be interesting rather than wanting the right most removed. Good job.
