The Badlands

Utah's Badlands. See larger version

Ive always had a fascination with big panoramics. I get it, they look like crap as a thumbnail, but printed big they can mesmerize and connect. Thus, I submit a crappy looking thumbnail! LOL!

There's a few crops from this image i think will look great but first I will submit this big pano to those that can see the bigger picture here.

Canon 6D, 400mm 9 image vertical stitch.

This is super cool. Kane. Wish I had a better feel for scale (maybe your truck balanced on one of those ridges) but i guess if you print this big enough--say 30 feet wide--that point would be moot.

Kane, this looks really fantastic. Comp is very nice with the contrasting directions of the land And subtle warmth mixed in with the cool blue tone. No doubt I would put this on my wall.

Amazing panorama Kane! It has a mesmerizing atmosphere which I really like. I would also be curious how a crop from the left would work. If that yellowish part is removed, you get a more monochromatic image and the composition would be even more abstract in my opinion.

Wonderful cool tones. I could even see adding some contrast to accentuate the ridges. Espcially like the intersection areas of the vertical ridges with the lower horizontal ones.

Kane, historically I've not been a huge fan of badlands images, but you may have just changed my mind for me. I love the color and the lines and detail from the side lighting. Superb image!

Kane, this is really an awesome pano. To me there is no better place on earth than these blue mancos shale badlands. I love the compression of the scene with that 400 mm and then detail in the pano stitch. these badlands have such a graphic feel and the sidelight brings it all to light. Excellent!!!!

This is a really nice image. I love the juxtaposition of the ridges. Many viewers, including myself, may end up being befuddled since there is no scale for the eyes. I have no idea how big this area is. But it is nice nonetheless.

Nice image Kane. I like the composition and the cool blue tones. However, the image is a bit too dark for me and also I would like to see a bit more contrast.

Seems like we often get hooked into the sunset orange images so often we forget some of the "other" color spectrum. Wonderful image that can't imagine how it could be improved.

I really like the comp and the wide format pano definitely works. It feels a bit underexposed on my monitor, and that sort of hides the overall texture a bit.

I missed this earlier I guess. Glad I found it. Let me get my nit out of the way early - on my uncalibrated work monitor it appears just a tiny bit dark, but I'll check it again when I get home. This is an absolute knockout IMHO. The variations in color, shape, shadows, and texture just suck me right in. In addition, the rocks at the top offer such an exciting element as well. Being a 9 image stitch I would love to see this really large!

Even shown as small, the color and lighting has a majestic mood…prehistoric. This must overwhelm the viewer when enlarged to more than 6-8 feet across. Wow…hard to imagine.. Congrats on the WP!

The intersecting lines is what is so fascinating about this. I could study this for a long time! Congratulations on the WP as well!

Very nice, Kane! I like the intimacy that you've created by focusing on these ridges, as well as the colors that you've captured.

Tim!
