D800 600mm F5.6 1/4000 sec ISO 400 tripod

This shot came from my first session with a new 600mm Nikon lens. I was lucky enough to find 7 brown pelicans diving and feeding for more than half an hour only about 100 yards from my campsite. I was very impressed with the quantity and quality of shots that I was able to come away with using this lens, almost enough to make me forget how much it costs and how much it weighs.

Very cool shot Bob. Not sure your timing could be any better on this. Also not an easy capture. Congrats on your new lens...looks like it's already being put to good use.

Gorgeous image, Bob. Wonderful timing and a perfect angle. Well done. (And at least your lens is a whole lot cheaper than the equivalent Canon these days).

Congrats with the new lens, it seems to work well. Great action, well captured - I also like the composition ! It may be my tired eyes, but it seems the actual focus is on the wings and less on the head ? Anyway - a wonderful shot ! Have fun with this great lens ! Hans

Excellent shot and wonderful timing to get this. Looks like the 600 will be a great addition and a wonderful lens for bird photography. I just checked out your blog and now I am double jealous (a full time traveler and a 600 lens)
