What's Up There?
by Dennis Plank
I came across this Great Blue Heron just before leaving Ridgefield last Saturday and decided to do some portrait shots. It was originally concentrating on the ground, probably hunting, but something in the sky attracted it and I have a set of shots of his gaze and neck slowly going up and following whatever it was across the sky (I suspect a Bald Eagle, but didn't look up from the viewfinder to check). I like htis frame where the head has just come level and the eye is starting to look up.
7D, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, beanbag on truck windowsill, f9, 1/1000, Av mode with -1/3 compensation for the whites (turned out I didn't need it and actually had to increase the exposure in post), iso 400. Processed in LR5 & CS6. A slight crop to 16.2MP. Taken February 1st at 2:16 pm.
Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.
Thanks for looking,
