The rainy season is not really the time to visit Hwange National Park, if you wish too see the usual thousands of Elephants.
At this time they disperse into the forests and are difficult to find, we were lucky on a really miserable morning to find the Young Bull, in the teak forest on my friends concession Camp Hwange.
EOS 1D MkIV
200-400 mm F4 at 200 mm
ISO 800.
F6.3
1/640
EV + 0.33
After the rains it really is this green

Hello Ken

Excellent capture. all four legs are very visible with his tail making an appearance too.
sharp and detailed , skin texture with his wrinkles show up nicely. at 200mm you were quite close to this guy. with all that fresh greenery he should enjoy and replenish his body with the protein being offered here. Really like those well defined tusks he is showing you.

Thanks for sharing

Bill

Ken,

I have to admit, I am a sucker for bull elephant shots. You were lucky to get him in the clear. It's a bit of an unusual shot with all the greenery. Most elephant shots are in a much drier habitat. Well done. On a side note, I am now the proud owner of a new Canon 200-400. I didn't buy it. My lovely wife gave it to be for my birthday. How cool is that? I wanted to thank you for the advice on this lens. But mostly, I wanted to thank you for all the wonderful images you posted using this lens. It helped me to understand what it is capable of.

Looks like nice high overcast conditions, the details are great. I'm not sure the +0.33 EV was needed here, but a matter of personal preference.

Wonderful setting as I am not use to seeing green on most elephant images. This bull looks like he is doing well, which is good to see, nice job in getting this, well done Ken.

Good, clear capture, Ken. I think his striding posture and slightly raised tail add much to the image.

Nicely done Ken! Hard to believe this is the same Hwange we visited last July, it's so green.
