It's been a while...

Here's a scene noticed, unexpectedly, as I walked around one of the local lakes. This was taken shortly after the huge flood wiped clean the banks of many major rivers along the front range in Colorado in later 2013. The high water levels effected many local natural areas, this lake being one of them. A strong stench hung around this area, with dead fish littering the banks. As I walked the perimeter, I saw a small area of the water surface was coated in some sort of oil, or something, creating many designs of white strands for decoration. Sad, but sort of pretty, but definitely interesting...

The shadows running diagonally across the image are from nearby plants lining the lakes edge. IMO, they add some interest to the scene, so I didn't bother doing anything with them, but I'm guessing some of you may find them distracting? Interested to hear your thoughts, as always.

Whatever it was that created the streaks it makes for an excellent abstract. The shadows do add another layer of lines and tones. Either way for them works for me. Very cool, Nathan.

Really good abstract Nathan. I would probably prefer without the additional shadows but the pattern of the white streaks on the water is very engaging.

Sweet abstract, Nathan. Without your narrative I would have no idea what I'm looking at. To me it might be stronger without the shadows but really well seen as is.

Nathan, welcome back. This is a very nice contrasty abstract where the black and white application fits the muddy waters perfect. I especially like the back story.

Fascinating. I could not have guessed what this was without your notes.

Appreciate the comments, everyone. Yeah, when I first glanced at this stuff I was also taken aback. Not exactly sure what it is though, which has frustrated me! :)

Nancy---what I was thinking too (lightning)! Tesla's coil also comes to mind?

I don't have any idea what created the streaks but they make an excellent abstract image. The shadows do not bother me at all......This image would also work well without the shadows, but as said, they doesn't bother me at all.

You've created a great sense of flow in this, Nathan. The shadows add an additional touch of mystery. Having belatedly understood your title, I think it's perfect.

I find this fascinating, Nathan. I'm not sure how to comment other than to say this looks cool. Maybe that's enough.

Probably better without the shadows but they don't impact my enjoyment of this significantly. I find this absolutely intriguing. :toast:
