This is a three stitch shot mid morning so light is harsh just like the surroundings. No place for old men.
Bisti Badlands near Farmington New Mexico.

Unlike the last one, this is not pretty, but I still can't stop looking at it. I agree that this looks like "no place for old men" 'cause I would not want to walk across this scene. This harsh light, and you processing brings that feeling out, just as you intended. I still find myself wishing for a bit more contrast, however, even with the harsh light. But I'm an old man who does not belong there, so what do I know. I'm enjoying these looks at the badlands whether I belong there or not.

i am with you Wayne. This was not intended as a pretty capture. More along on what to expect. The Lone Ranger would avoid this if he could~LOL.

There should be a sign—"Abandon all hope, ye old geezers who enter here".

I'm with Phil and the sign! Even more desolate than the previous one.

Very nice composition Rick, I might be tempted to try a B&W conversion for this scene. It certainly conveys your intent quite nicely.

I'll have to second the comments made by Wayne and Phillip on this one, Rick. The desolation and inhospitable nature of this landscape comes across perfectly.

See Rick, I'm just the opposite, I'll probably die in a place just like this. Makes me want to explore even more. Nice peek into what's there. I've enjoyed your depictions of the place. Thanks.

Gary,
Me too and had a very close call in Palo Duro Canyon in great drought and heat of 2011 when 125 degree temperatures on the canyon floor did me in. Thanks to the great Rangers of Texas Parks I am still here.
