I've tried "fire pictures" off and on over the years with very limited success. Given a cold, windy day (at least for this area, ), I thought I'd try again. Here's a result from a 9 image stack. (5D3, 100mm macro L, f/16, 2.0s, iso 400, tripod, cable release and mirror lock up.

Your regular trials with "fire pictures" have paid off, Mark. Very nice capture and details. I especially like the flame that swooshes up from the center. :toast:

Playing with fire.... a phrase with a few different connotations and you've successfully added another Mark! The swoosh is really cool, but so too is looking deep into the openings around the base of the swoosh, with all the textures and heat patterns.

Well, practice makes perfect I guess. This is an excellent rendition. Really gives the essence of it.

Good eye - You've pulled out a great comp Mark.
The 2 second exposure has transformed the flames..
So I agree with Karen, "swoosh" is the best adjective describing em'
Also like the glowing embers as you look deeper, well done! :toast: :toast:

Interesting to see your results of "playing with fire" over the years. . .and it looks like your efforts paid off! I like the smooth swirls of flame, the comp of the logs, and the glimpses of intense heat through the logs. And good exposure handling to not blow out those intense heat spots. Sounds like an interesting photo project for a cold winters' night.
