Crystal seedhead

by Carolyn Derstine

After a recent snow & ice storm, everything looked like it had a glass crystal coating. This is a seedhead of a fountain grass (Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Moudry") that was being lit by the emerging sun (plus on-camera flash) against the sparkling snow.

Canon 60D. 90mm macro lens. F/18 for 1/15 sec. ISO 100. Tripod mounted, flash fired.

Wishing all of you a Merry Christmas and a blessed holiday season! :wavey:

All those frozen drops are great and the color contrast between the grass and the shadow really accents the plant well. Well seen and captured. Happy Holidays, Carolyn.

Love the blue & gold color, the attractive BG almost looks like sky at first blush
Great light, comp, & interest, beautiful work.
Merry Christmas Carolyn :wavey:

There is lots to look at in this simple little macro, Carolyn! Love all the sparkly frozen water droplets and the color contrasts. The flash was a good idea as it certainly added to the sparkles.

I am always looking for ice-covered specimens too; I think they really personify winter. This was captured nicely; details are sharp; like the comp with it coming from the bottom right; blue background is not too bluish and the white snow/ice? adds some interest. Happy New Year Carolyn and thanks for making my first year as an NPN member a very enjoyable experience.
