Wipe your mouth!

I cannot resist squirrel shots, and this one was taken in my front yard. This guy looks like he just finished eating something in that the residual bits were having from his mouth. The lighting for this particular shot was not very good with the sun setting to the West (subject was facing Northerly).

Canon 70D with Canon 100-400 L lens at 400mm, f5.6, 1/500 ISO 3200

Hi Sandy. I like the composition you chose here, the squirrel's body occupies that triangular space in the upper third corner in a very jaunty sort of way. This is picky, but ideally could have used a little more space at the top so that one whisker would be contained within the frame. Image quality looks very good in spite of the extreme iso. I'm reluctant to go that high with iso unless really pressed; I guess it all depends on how fast your squirrels are.

Hi Gary, thanks for stopping by and making some suggestions. The composition, rather than the technical aspects of this shot is why I liked it. I do have a tendency to want to crop things tightly into the scene. I keep my camera by a table in the entry way of the house and I always find myself grabbing it and running outside when I see something of interest. I could have used some fill light, and did not think it would come out very well, but again, it was the composition that won me over on this one! I love the fact that these guys are so curious and willing to pose for extended periods!
