He's Back

Yesterday the morning was quite frosty and cold as can be seen by the frost on the vegetation this buck is moving through. He's the one I saw a few weeks ago. He still gets the ultimate respect from the other bucks, including Scarface who didn't challenge him as he walked by. He just appeared over the rise behind him, walked into the area, selected a doe, and she led him off to who knows where. But I was really interested in how the dynamics changed when he showed up. I played quite a bit with this as I had the real bright frosty veg to deal with. So, I played more with the highlight, white, shadow, and black sliders and the contrast. I think it helped the deer and his rack to pop a bit better off the BG and also that the FG veg doesn't dominate the scene as much. I'd be glad to know from comments and critiques if I got in the ballpark. I also had to crop this by about 40% to get rid of a deer on the left that didn't add anything to the scene. Still learning with LR5.

Peter, I understand about the tough lighting conditions. Couple of items, I wish the buck had moved forward just a bit more to get his left side antlers away from the branches behind them, and, I wish he had his head up a bit more. Still need shot. Also you might consider cropping off some of the FG. Thanks for sharing.

My goodness, he is a special individual. You have probably maximized possibilities with this frame given the setting. I am hoping he will offer himself to your lens with a soft background soon!
