Snowy

I visited Duxbury Beach just south of Boston on Sunday morning. I saw two of the three Snowys that were reported that morning and took a rather distant shot of this guy as I was very cautious not to press closer to this bird for fear of flushing him. Just getting an opportunity to see a Snowy was such a thrill, taking away an image was a bonus.

Nice catch, Charles. If you have another opportunity, you might try for a bit closer. When we had an irruption here a couple of years ago, they were quite tolerant of humans. I did see one or two flush, but only when some idiot tried to get within about 20-25 feet. Unfortunately, they're so popular that they tend to draw mobs of birders and bird photographers.

Nice work, we have a lot of sighting on these owls in the New York area also. I hoping to have a chance to photograph one. I like the habitat around the bird, very nice.

Nice shot. You took good advantage of a special opportunity and made the most of it. Two years ago we had a visit from one of these guys near Dallas, Texas. The bird spent 4 or 5 days at a lake just east of town. He was hanging out around a marina and in my two trips all I ever saw him was perched on a light pole. I don't know anyone who got pictures wihout the light pole. The consensus was that he was hunting the rodents frequenting the dumpsters there. According to a map on the internet it was the farthest south one has been spotted so it was still a very lucky opportunity inspite of his unfortunate perch choice.
