Singing a Love Song

by Jack Bell

I photographed this bison bull this fall at the National Bison Range. The bison were in rut. This bull was in quite fixated on a specific bison cow and was staying close to her. He was constantly vocalizing to her. I enjoyed my time observing him and listening to his "love songs."

Comments, critique and suggestions always welcome.

Happy Shooting
Jack

Tech stuff: Canon5D III, Canon EF500mm/f4L IS, f/5.6, 1/3200 sec, ISO-400, tripod. Cropped 50% from left and right to create a vertical presentation. Processed with Lightroom.

Very nice image - great pose, fine detail, and complimentary BG and colours.
Well-done!

Hello Jack

well done. The Bulls have this amazingly low bellow sound , pronouncing their girl friend is hot!

This is impressive Jack. Impressive for the excellent detail in the dark coat and sharpness. The pose and open mouth are wonderful as well. Someone forgot to "shoot" this as a vertical....

I'm glad you had a big lens for this great shot. Don't think I would want to be any closer to this guy who was infatuated with a nearby cow. As others have mentioned, you got some great detail in that dark coat which at times seems very difficult to capture well. I agree that the vertical comp is the way to go but I think some of it is too tight.

Jack,

This is a delight, the pose is great and the detail in the black fur is amazing.
Your choice of a vertical presentation is OK by me , but I might consider more space on ther eft and less on the right :toast: :toast:

Lovely perspective here. I might sharpen it some more?
Harsh light well handled, Jack.

I like the low perspective. I agree with adding some room, especially on our left.
