I enjoy shooting squirrels around my yard, and this guy seemed to enjoy making extended eye contact and seemed to be gesturing to me!

Hi Sandy. Your photo is posted under the recommended size so it is difficult to evaluate the image quality, 720 pix at longest side is advised. However, the framing of the squirrel seems a bit tight to me, the toe and tail are clipped slightly. Personally, if the dominant body shape of my subject is vertical I usually will shoot it as a vertical. Everyone has a different eye and esthetic, so I can only speak to what I do. Of course the animals surroundings will have a big impact on the framing. He looks a little aggressive in this pose, like he's about to pounce! Squirrel's are definitely interesting to watch and photograph, real characters.

Thanks Gary, now that you point that out, I think I got a bit carried away with the cropping in an effort to fill the frame up with the squirrel. I love that this forum gives me so much food for thought for my next efforts. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

Sandy,
Gary has got this totally right, more room all round and a larger image would be great

Yes, space will help. This one has a posture calling for some kind of caption!

Thanks Lon, yes, it certainly looks like one of those shots that should be captioned!
