Cypress Trilogy

I have always admired my li'l Cajun buddy David's images of the cypress swamps, and over the years I have tried to capture many swamp scenes in the Southeast from Louisiana to the Okefenokee. I have passed by this area many times on I-49 somewhere south of Shreveport, but have never stopped to photograph it. So on my way over to the Bosque last week I decided to stop. I found this part of the scene appealing in the early morning light. I had to "stomp on" the larger image pretty hard to get it down within the 500k limit.

Very nice comp and color, I might try to remove the shadow off the left side.

Very nice, Bill. I like the warm light, detail, and your composition. You might consider pulling a little blue out of the shadows, but that's a personal preference.

Nicely done!

Delicately done. A difficult scene in the harsh light to get everything just right, but you have done well, grasshopper. I would opt for a bit more contrast and color, but that is my personal taste (which I admit, runs to the gaudy!).

Glad you took the time to stop, Bill. I've passed that area many times seen the potential but was always in too much of a hurry. I like the comp and you handled the contrasty light well.

The symmetry in the 3 tree trunks is great and their near perfect reflection emphasizes that symmetry further. The top 1/3 with it's layers of branches, leaves, and spanish moss adds an attractive abstract quality. I sure do like the subtlety and the details.

Beautiful image. Excellent natural color, and a fine comp.

Never tire of these types of shots! :toast:
I do think the blue here although very nice may distract from the surrealness of the presentation creating more perspective of location (if that makes any sense). Without the blue it would be harder to understand perspective and in my mind anyway, make it more surreal. Not that surreal was the gaol anyway.

A great and unique composition from the swamp. There's muted but interesting color here, but I also wonder how this would work as a B&W. Nice work!

This is really nice, Bill. I like the colors a lot and the reflections look wonderful! These swamp scenes always seem so interesting and especially when done this well. Nice work.

That's an amazing reflection! I've really got to head to your neck of the woods with my camera some day.
