Black-capped at -25 F

Canon 1D-X, 300mm, handheld
f2.8, 1/320, ISO2500

The commonest bird in Interior Alaska until the Common Redpolls arrive. This isn't full piloerection, but he's pretty fluffed out.

50% of full frame, slight brightening, selective sharpening. There's slight noise in the darker parts of the background, but I thought I'd post without noise reduction to give you and idea of the camera's mid-range ISO performance.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

ISO 2500 is now mid-range-Wow! The black head almost looks a little foggy to my eye-the detail's all there but the black doesn't look quite rich enough (and I just went and cleaned my glasses). Very cool pose. I thought we were having a cold snap, but -25 makes ours look like a heat wave.

Excellent capture of this guy but I do think you need more contrast. The black head looks washed out. Aside from that a very nice photo.
