Canyon Tapestry
by John Williams
Several weekends ago, a friend and I hiked West Oak Creek Canyon near Sedona, AZ. I originally thought I would photograph the fall color and stream, but found myself shooting the interesting canyon walls instead.

It's interesting that several mentioned it was hard to orient. I never thought of it that way, partly because I saw the full scene, but also because growing up in AZ I know the vertical streaks are caused by water flowing down the canyon walls when it rains. It's wonderful to be in these canyons when a thunderstorm hits; there is all of a sudden a plethora of waterfalls. (Until the flash flood comes, then not so wonderful...)
