Sandpiper

As my son and I swam in the Atlantic before sunset at Cocoa Beach, Florida, the sandpipers ran up and down the beach to look for food. I was able to capture many profile pictures of sandpipers, but I like this one best, since the little bird was not shy and seemed to look me in the eye.

I like the reflections of the bird in the wet send (the reflection above it is from an out-of-view bird) and how the stones in the FG and BG are OOF. This picture is cropped quite a bit on the right and top. What might you do to improve the crop and tone of the picture?

I like the concept of getting low and trying to create this image. Exposure looks pretty good on all the parts of the image. Two issues that really detract for me. The bright white rock in the lower left is a real eye grabber. More importantly, the bird is just not sharp.

I agree with Keith on all but one item: that is a seashell, not a rock. the Southern Atlantic beach don't got no rocks...

Thanks for the feedback, Keith and Phil. As I look closer at the bird, it does look a bit OOF.

I agree with the previous comments and I also am not crazy about the head on pose, I think I would have preferred one of your profile shots.

It's time for me to give up on this image. You all have helped me learn a few things. If one of the profile shots looks good (in my opinion), I may post it in the Avian gallery, too.
